Shuso Handmade Japanese Paper

■Shuso Handmade Japanese Paper

Handmade Japanese paper is manufactured at the Daimyojingawa riverside as well as the Kuniyasu and Ishida areas. This is a traditional industry with a long and impressive history starting from the 1800s. The adjoining paper workshops make this town more attractive with the resonance of those olden days.

Children’s Museum

■Children's Museum

Danjiri, which is a mobile float of the Saijo Festival, is exhibited on the first floor of the exhibition pavilion. Articles left by the deceased Sinji Sogo, former Director General of the former Japan National Railways, who is famous as the inventor of the Shinkansen (bullet train), are exhibited on the second floor.

The Goliath Crane installed on the premises of Saijo Shipyard is 90m high, 168m wide, and weighs 800 tons. This is the largest crane in Japan and has become one of the landmarks of Saijo.
